Grape Varieties: 70% Malvasia Istriana + 30% Sauvignon Blanc
Lepa Vida winery owners Matija and Irena created Mi as an homage to their love for one another and the wine they produce. This lovely hand harvested cuveé combines Irena’s favorite varietal Sauvignon Blanc and her winemaker husband’s first choice of Malvasia Istriana, an ancestral variety from the Vipava Valley region in Slovenia. The challenge was how to define the ratio, so Matija decided he is taller and drinks more than Irena; hence Mi is composed of 70% Malvasia Istriana and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. It has aromas of meadow flowers, herbal notes and tropical fruits. It is lively on the palate with hints of citrus, apple and other orchard fruits. The finish highlights the delicate balance of Sauvignon’s crispiness and Malvasia’s full bodied richness and slight mineral qualities. Mi is 100% fermented in stainless steel. When the fermentation of Malvasia begins, the fermentation of Sauvignon is almost over, therefore the blend of the two parts into one takes place during Malvasia’s fermentation.
GASTRONOMY: The minerality of this wine lends itself to shellfish very well. Its a versatile medium bodied wine that pairs well with most dishes.
